HSS-PM Evolution: a new generation of end mills
LMT Fette takes the next step in the development of HSS end mills. Under the name of HSS-PM Evolution, the tool specialists are from end of April, only offering end mills of high-speed steel made with powder-metallurgical techniques. The benefits for the user: higher performance, process reliability and lower manufacturing costs.
High-speed steel manufactured using powder metallurgical techniques combines the unique properties of HSS tools with a significantly higher performance capability. As a result of the greater proportion of alloyed elements and of the homogeneous microstructure, HSS-PM end mills are more resistant to wear, harder, tougher and therefore more economical than smelted HSS tools. The many years of experience behind the developers at LMT Fette guarantees here the optimum cutting material type for all high-performance applications. What is more, LMT Fette treats the majority of the HSS-PM Evolution tools with the new high-performance Al2Plus (TiAlN) coating. The coating acts as a protective shield, increasing the red hardness and resistance to abrasion of the tools yet further.
HSS-PM – the advantages of versatility
High-speed steel incorporates of a range of alloy components such as chromium, tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium and cobalt. In the powder-metallurgical manufacturing technique, these elements are pulverized together with the carbon and iron, and are combined through high-temperature isostatic pressing. The semi-finished products made in this way are then forged and rolled before the manufacturer gives the tools the finishing touch. This manufacturing technique provides a unique combination of properties, opening a wide range of applications to HSS-PM tools:
