LMT joins composites network

In May, LMT became a member of Carbon Composites e.V. (CCeV), an association that acts as a competence network covering the entire value-creation chain in the field of fibre composite technology. Its members – currently a total of 93 companies and research institutions from Germany, Austria and Switzerland – have set themselves the goal of advancing the development of composite materials and associated processing techniques.

Achieving marketable high-performance fibre composite structures is the definitive goal towards which the activities of the CCeV are aimed. Accordingly, the association supports fibre composite technologies, is engaged in building a competence network and promotes networking between research and industry. Toolmakers also have a special role to play here, because composite materials have properties that make very great demands on tools. Carbon-fibre reinforced plastics are highly abrasive, have unfavourable vibration and resonance characteristics and are sensitive to overheating.

Specialists at LMT

Within the LMT Group, the LMT Belin and LMT Onsrud companies have specialized on the high-speed machining of these demanding materials. Their cutters, drills, reamers and special-purpose tools are precisely tailored to meet the requirements of composite materials: their blade geometries, coatings and tool substrates ensure the machining of smooth, straight and burrless cut edges. These tools are also ideally protected against wear and tear and enable higher feed rates and longer operating times.
