“We pass on valuable knowledge and experience”

The LMT Group Academy is starting the new year with a wide-ranging programme – the sixth Web seminar is being held before the end of this month and local technology seminars will begin in March. We spoke with academy director Dr. Diethard Thomas to find out why the programme is so important for users.

What role does the LMT Group Academy play in the range of services offered by the Group?

Dr. Diethard Thomas: It is definitely important. Used correctly, precision tools can improve the performance of all machining techniques – irrespective of whether they are used in mass production or at a small family firm. But, of course, everything turns on the word “correctly”. The tool has to selected and set up to match the machine and the component being machined. In our seminars and events we pass on valuable engineering knowledge and experience.

So it’s not just about “theory”?

We value both: holistic knowledge of the theory and the practical application. In our seminars we explain the potential of a tool and its optimum areas of application. However, we also show the tool in operation on a machine. Additionally, customers can draw our attention to their specific application. We’ve had customers who have immediately tried out what they learned at a seminar on the very same evening and then immediately phoned us back in a wave of euphoria about their success.

Do you cover the very latest tool developments in your seminars?

That is one of our main promises. We show tools in all fields of application with the newest geometries, cutting materials and coatings. The goal is always to ensure that participants receive information that enables them to improve their productivity. Of course, our latest tool innovations are important there.

Who can take part in the events organized by the LMT Group Academy?

We very consciously target a broad range of participants. We naturally want first of all to communicate our latest findings to LMT customers, but participants from associations, universities and vocational schools are also very welcome.

What’s special about the new Web seminars?

First of all, it is clear that communications technology has rapidly changed and is opening up new possibilities. We are now exploiting these. Customers all of the world can join us over the Internet and discover more about the main tool developments in their area of application – without having to make a long journey and simply by spending some 30 minutes at their own computers. That’s how long each Web seminar lasts. And if they wish, they can even ask questions using the Internet chat feature. Of course, that won’t replace a technology seminar on the spot, but it does offer an attractive alternative.

Make a note of this date now:

The next Web seminar on machining will be held on 27 January.
