Mystik: The Specialist for Graphite Electrode Machining

The single-layer diamond coating Mystik from LMT extends the high-performance coating range further. The min. 15x to 50x increase in tool life in comparison with uncoated carbide tools brought about by this coating (which has been especially developed for graphite electrode machining) is particularly impressive. The coating also has enormous potential in the cutting of non-ferrous materials and modern composites such as carbon fibre laminate, which place the highest demands on cutting tools.

The LC610A/LC620A cutting material is suitable both for graphite electrode roughing (where high tooth rates are usually advantageous) and the subsequent smoothing.

The cutting geometries of the solid carbide cutters from LMT Fette and indexable inserts from LMT Kieninger have also been enhanced for graphite machining. In this way, the user enjoys the benefits of longer tool life and considerably increased safety in the entire cutting process.

Polycrystalline diamond coating with extremely high hardness

However, the diamond coating is not solely responsible for this increase in performance. Extensive research work within the LMT Group has been required to match the carbide and its surface with each other so as to ensure optimal coating adhesion with the lowest possible surface roughness.
